New Zealand Tech Roadshow Korea 2020
The New Zealand Tech Roadshow Korea 2020 – a week-long online seminar hosted by The Kiwi Chamber and the New Zealand Embassy in Seoul – had remarkable success in connecting New Zealand tech firms with Korean counterparts. The opening day attracted around 60 participants from business and trade, academia and government sectors, and included 13 participating New Zealand tech firms and over 30 Korean companies. The second day workshop was also well attended by 34 participants from both countries.
To showcase the overall success of the virtual event and understand the key take-aways participating New Zealand firms were able to receive, online interviews of representatives from a few Kiwi firms were created to get their personal views on the usefulness of the week’s events and how it assisted them to better understand the opportunities available in the Korean market.

Kiwi Chamber Board Advisor Lukas Beech, who conducted the interviews, expressed hope that the business relationships and local knowledge participants obtain through the tech roadshow will help open the door for New Zealand companies to the Korean market.
“Testimonials provide insights into the success stories of New Zealand firms and that journey to success is different for every company, and thus each company’s story is different,” said Mr. Beech. “Hopefully, the testimonials will give others a useful point of reference for their own journeys.”
To gain a deeper perspective on participants’ success stories and their experience from taking part in this year’s roadshow, Mr. Beech talked with Simon Ash, Business Development Manager of Veovo – a leader in technology for multi-modal passenger flow, airport management and revenue maximisation. His questions focused on Veovo’s technology; their successes in New Zealand and overseas; participation in this year’s roadshow; key take-aways and lessons learnt; and market development traction gained since the roadshow.
“Veovo is an interesting company, not only because of the technical capabilities of the business, but especially because they already have 200 international customers, and Korea is a new market that promises further expansion potential,” said Mr. Beech. “I’m delighted to have learned about Veovo and for the active interest from Simon and his colleagues in leveraging The New Zealand Tech Roadshow as a vehicle to explore Korea.”
In recognition of Mr. Beech’s assistance in helping to facilitate introductions to Korean organisations, Mr. Ash emphasized, “We literally were able to speak directly with the Chief Strategy Officer of an LG Group company which was incredible, and I have continued conversations from then and we are already talking about setting up some more meetings in January. From my point of view, it was very beneficial. Thank you very much [Lukas] and to The Kiwi Chamber of Commerce.”
